A fire broke out on Tuesday, March 3, 2026 around 5 p.m. in a hotel located near 5 rue de France, in the extension of rue Masséna, in a pedestrian zone in Nice. The operation mobilized 27 firefighters and seven vehicles. Seven people were brought to safety. No one was injured.
A major emergency response deployed
The fire started on the second floor of this establishment, located above the restaurant “Chez Mori’s”. Flames first escaped from a balcony, leading to the deployment of the aerial ladder in the pedestrian street in order to rescue people trapped and facilitate fire control operations.
Two hoses were deployed to extinguish the flames. One was used to “beat” the flames from the street. The other was deployed inside, through the stairs, to smother the fire. One occupant trapped on the floor was extracted using the aerial ladder. Five other people were evacuated from the outside.
A victim assembly point was set up nearby. In total, seven people were brought to safety and examined by a nurse. Their health condition did not require transfer to a hospital.
The area was cordoned off during the operation. Traffic remained heavily disrupted in the pedestrian zone area. At 6:15 p.m., the fire was brought under control by emergency services but the area remains closed to traffic and pedestrians. The causes of this fire remain unknown for now. An investigation will need to be conducted in the coming days to determine the origin of this incident.
