After seven months of work and 50 million euros of investment, the Palais de la Méditerranée reopens on the Promenade des Anglais in Nice under the banner The Unbound Collection by Hyatt. This reopening marks a new chapter in the history of this emblematic Côte d’Azur establishment.
The Palais de la Méditerranée has just reopened after a 50 million euro renovation. An investment that restores a central place to this emblematic address on the Promenade des Anglais. This transformation comes at a time when Nice is attempting to strengthen its appeal, driven by the expansion of its airport, the arrival of new international connections and a gradual upmarket shift in its hotel offering. The integration of the Palais into The Unbound Collection by Hyatt accompanies this dynamic, linking strong local heritage to international visibility that attracts leisure and business clientele seeking seaside urban experiences.
The reopening comes as Terminal 2 of Nice Côte d’Azur airport continues its expansion, with capacity increased to 18 million passengers and over 130 destinations planned for summer 2026. Direct connections to the United States, Asia and various European countries strengthen this openness, creating a favorable environment for an establishment seeking to combine architectural heritage and contemporary uses. The Palais de la Méditerranée thus regains a strategic position in a city adjusting its tourism offer to more diverse demand.
An establishment redesigned to welcome travelers, events and new expectations
The renovation was entrusted to designer Linda Boronkay, who chose to reinterpret Art Deco heritage through a contemporary reading inspired by the Mediterranean. The 173 rooms and suites, including 28 suites, embody this approach, with spaces that extend the building’s identity while meeting the expectations of an international clientele. The Zouzou restaurant, located on the third floor, showcases contemporary Mediterranean cuisine rooted in regional and seasonal products, while the rooftop opens onto the Bay of Angels, an asset for travelers seeking an urban experience facing the sea.
The establishment also strengthens its positioning in the MICE market, with over 1,700 m² of event spaces. The Riviera Salon, capable of accommodating up to 936 people in theater configuration, meets the needs of international conferences, fashion shows and corporate events. This dimension complements traditional tourism uses and contributes to the economic appeal of the destination.
The Palais’s history accompanies this renewal. Built in 1928 and inaugurated in 1929, the building housed a casino, theater and restaurant. The Art Deco facades were listed as historical monuments in 1990, allowing their preservation despite demolition projects. A complete reconstruction followed in 2001 thanks to a 120 million euro investment, before several evolutions that preceded the current renovation. This trajectory gives the reopening a heritage dimension that adds to the tourism challenge.
Tamara Lohan, Global Brand Leader Luxury at Hyatt, recalls: « The Unbound Collection by Hyatt are places with a unique soul, hotels full of stories while remaining current and contemporary. » Julien Renetaud, General Manager, emphasizes: « Reinventing the Palais de la Méditerranée Hotel is an extraordinary privilege. This building is woven into Nice’s identity. »
