The French Communist Party continues its restructuring in the Alpes-Maritimes. Julien Picot is reconfirmed at the head of the departmental federation while Gilles Verrier becomes secretary of the Nice section. A reorganization that is also accompanied by representation of the Alpes-Maritimes on the PCF National Committee.
The French Communist Party is continuing the reorganization of its bodies in the Alpes-Maritimes following several congresses held in June. At the congress of Nice communists on June 12 and 13, Gilles Verrier was elected secretary of the Nice section. A teacher, author of several professional works and member of the outgoing section bureau, the new leader had also participated in the last municipal elections on the gathering list of the left and environmentalists.
A section committee renewed in half will accompany this new leadership. Gilles Verrier displays an objective of development of the French Communist Party in the Azure Coast capital. “If we want a stronger Communist Party, it is because Nice’s residents need a force capable of defending work, peace, social justice and democracy,” he had declared.
The departmental secretary of the PCF in Alpes-Maritimes, Julien Picot, welcomed this election: “I congratulate Gilles on his election and will be at his side with the PCF federation of Alpes-Maritimes throughout the coming years.”
Julien Picot reconfirmed and elected to the National Committee of the French Communist Party
Meeting at the departmental congress, communists in Alpes-Maritimes renewed their confidence in Julien Picot, re-elected departmental secretary of the federation.
This re-election follows on from the work undertaken over the past three years to strengthen the French Communist Party’s presence in the department. According to the federation, new members have joined the movement, the number of elected officials has increased and the PCF is now present in 17 municipalities in Alpes-Maritimes.
Following the vote, Julien Picot thanked the activists. “This re-election is above all that of an activist collective which, for three years, has been working to restore the French Communist Party to its rightful place in our department. The progress made is significant, but the challenges ahead are even greater.”
The departmental secretary also presented the party’s priorities for the coming years. “In light of this situation, the French Communist Party has a particular responsibility. We want to be a useful, combative and unifying force. A force that defends the world of work, public services, the right to housing, wage increases, ecological transition and social justice.”
Julien Picot also believes that the gathering of the left is a central issue. “Alpes-Maritimes is not condemned to remain a stronghold of the right and far right. Our department needs a popular left, rooted in the realities of everyday life, capable of bringing hope and building a credible alternative. The gathering of the left is not an option; it is a necessity to meet the expectations of those suffering from current policies.”
The restructuring of the PCF is finally accompanied by representation of Alpes-Maritimes at the national level. Following the 40th Congress of the French Communist Party, Julien Picot was elected to the PCF National Committee, alongside Anne Manauthon.
The departmental federation considers this election as recognition of the work carried out in recent years on the territory. This presence within the national leadership should make it possible to bring the issues of Alpes-Maritimes to the debates of the French Communist Party, particularly on purchasing power, housing, public services, ecological transition, peace and the fight against discrimination.
