An accident involving a heavy goods vehicle, combined with already heavy traffic due to summer departures, caused significant traffic difficulties on Wednesday, July 15, 2026 on the A8 motorway between Antibes and Cagnes-sur-Mer. Despite the end of the intervention, slowdowns remain significant.

Motorists experienced another difficult day on the A8 motorway on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, in the Alpes-Maritimes. From late morning, a major traffic jam formed heading towards Italy, at the Antibes toll booth.

At 12:03, Vinci Autoroutes indicated that “no accident or particular incident” explained the slowdowns. A few minutes later, the operator mentioned a broken-down car approaching the toll booth, with a reduction in the number of available lanes. Traffic had already been described as complicated since early morning, in a context of heavy tourist traffic on the Côte d’Azur.

The situation then deteriorated after exit 48 at Cagnes-sur-Mer. At 1:08 pm, Vinci Autoroutes reported an accident involving a heavy goods vehicle on the A8, heading towards Italy. The incident initially resulted in a journey time increase of approximately twenty minutes.

Intervention teams proceeded to neutralize several lanes to allow the patrol and breakdown services to intervene.

Traffic remains very difficult despite the end of the intervention

The accident was reported as over mid-afternoon. Traffic resumed on all lanes. Despite this return to normal configuration, the consequences remain significant.

Around 3 p.m., the traffic jam still extends for nearly seven kilometers. Journey time still exceeds one hour between Antibes and Cagnes-sur-Mer heading towards Italy. Vinci Autoroutes confirms that traffic remains very difficult despite the end of the intervention.

Secondary roads are also beginning to become congested, particularly on the coastal road, used by many motorists seeking to avoid the motorway.

Before the Antibes toll booth, the choice of traffic lane or payment method can also vary waiting times. With the influx of vacationers on the roads of the Alpes-Maritimes, a complete return to normal should require several more hours.
