Tour de France Femmes 2026: Demi Vollering crowned for the second time in Nice, the standings

Demi Vollering won the 9th and final stage of the 2026 Women’s Tour de France on Sunday, August 9 in Nice. The Dutch cyclist also secured the overall classification after a final day disputed around the Èze pass.

In the streets of Nice, Demi Vollering, the FDJ United-Suez rider won the 9th stage of the 2026 Women’s Tour de France and secured her overall victory. The 99.2-kilometer route offered a loop around Nice. The start was given at Place Masséna. The cyclists then faced several difficulties, including four passages over the Èze pass and a final climb via the Vinaigrier sector and the Four Roads pass.

The finish line was on the Promenade des Anglais. A Nice setting to conclude an edition marked by the duel between Demi Vollering and Kasia Niewiadoma-Phinney separated by just eight seconds in the overall classification.

Vollering makes the difference in the final climb

The race maintained a measured pace for a long time. Lorena Wiebes notably secured the green jersey by leading the peloton during an intermediate sprint. The Dutch cyclist was then dropped in the first part of the stage. However, the points classification was already largely in her favor.

The race truly came alive in the final difficulties. Marlen Reusser, third in the overall classification before this final day, crashed in the descent after the second passage of the Èze pass. The Swiss cyclist had to abandon her overall ambitions following this crash.

At the front of the favorites’ group, Antonia Niedermaier and then Kasia Niewiadoma attempted to intensify the race. The Polish rider launched an attack in the final climb. An attack that failed to drop Demi Vollering.

Everything was decided one kilometer from the summit, the yellow jersey accelerated. Niewiadoma could not follow. Vollering crossed the summit with a 15-second lead. The chase group was then 30 seconds behind.

The Dutch cyclist then resisted in the descent before reaching the flat section of the course. The gap was enough to allow the FDJ United-Suez rider to arrive alone on the Promenade des Anglais as the day before.

With this victory, Demi Vollering also takes her revenge on Kasia Niewiadoma. In 2024, the Dutch cyclist finished second in the Women’s Tour de France just four seconds behind the Polish rider.

This time, the overall classification is in Vollering’s favor. The final victory is also historic for FDJ United-Suez, the first French team to have its name on the Women’s Tour de France honor roll.

Demi Vollering also becomes the first rider to win two editions of the Women’s Tour de France.
