As high school student mobilizations continue in the Alpes-Maritimes, FACE06 calls for the demands related to study conditions to be heard. The student organization condemns violence and damage, while calling for more resources, dialogue and protection for young people.

Since the end of September, high school students have been mobilizing in several cities in the Alpes-Maritimes. Overcrowded classes, unreplaced staff absences, degraded infrastructure and insufficient study conditions are among the difficulties denounced.

In this context, FACE06 wishes to remind that the demands expressed by high school students must be heard. The organization believes that study conditions have consequences for the success, guidance and well-being of young people.

The position comes as the mobilization has been marked by several days of tension in the Alpes-Maritimes department. On Friday, October 2, 29 arrests were recorded following the throwing of mortars, projectiles and damage. No injuries were reported among security forces or protesters that day. Since the beginning of the movement, 14 national police officers and four municipal police officers have been injured.

FACE06 calls for dialogue with high school students

FACE06 reaffirms its commitment to the right to protest and freedom of expression. The organization also condemns any form of violence, damage or endangerment.

The role of law enforcement in maintaining a secure framework is recognized. However, FACE06 requests that the management of mobilizations take place in a peaceful atmosphere, with respect for the rights, physical integrity and dignity of young people, particularly when it comes to minors.

For the organization, excesses should not overshadow the demands made by high school students. FACE06 thus calls for « sufficient human resources and the replacement of absent staff […] study conditions and dignified reception in all establishments. »

Dialogue with students is also part of the demands. FACE06 calls for « genuine dialogue with high school students […] the protection of young people against any form of violence or intimidation. » The association also demands a more marked policy in favor of education and youth.

This position comes as the rectory has engaged in exchanges with student representatives. On Friday, October 2, the rector of the Nice Academy Emmanuel Roux convened the Academic Council for High School Life. Four subjects were notably addressed: the organization of schedules, conditions related to school buildings, guidance and dialogue with high school students.

Dialogue should continue on Monday, October 5 with the opening of a national consultation platform. In the Nice Academy, high school life councils must also be convened as soon as possible.

On the ground, distance learning will be maintained on Monday in 28 high schools in the Alpes-Maritimes. The system, which concerned 24 establishments on Friday, has been extended to four additional high schools and should expand further if the movement were to continue.

As 2027 approaches, FACE06 believes that young people cannot remain solely a subject of discussion. The organization demands that high school students be « heard, considered and involved in the decisions that build their future. »
