This Monday, October 12, 2026, the municipal council of Nice held its new session. A session marked by strong choices regarding community security, the Women’s House project as well as the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MAMAC).
For its opening session this morning on Monday, October 12, the municipal council opened in a climate of deep emotion with the observance of a minute of silence in memory of young Paloma, who disappeared on October 2. At the end of the debates, all 47 items on the agenda were adopted by local elected officials, demonstrating very broad political consensus since 46 of them were voted unanimously.
Strengthening of the CIM and the canine unit
On community security matters, the municipal council validated two major orientations aimed at increasing the operational capabilities of the municipal police. On one hand, the Shared Intervention Unit (CIM) will triple its workforce, going from 6 to 18 agents, in order to become a mobile, reactive force better connected to the field. With flexible hours focused on evenings and nights, the CIM will primarily target establishments that generate nuisances with a target of 120 inspections per quarter. Fueled by reports from residents and observations from patrols, this unit will combine firmness and support towards bringing businesses into compliance, while ensuring a monitoring role on issues of separatism or radicalization in connection with state services.
On the other hand, the municipality is implementing the progressive development of the canine brigade, currently composed of three dog handlers and two canine assistants, to bring its target strength to 14 service dogs. This scaling up will be accompanied by the recruitment of qualified agents, including a trainer dog handler, as well as the establishment of the necessary material, logistical and sanitary infrastructure to strengthen the deterrent presence on the ground and secure major events in the municipality.
12 new places created for early childhood
On early childhood matters, the municipal council gave a favorable opinion to two projects carried out by the associative sector in order to increase reception capacity on municipal territory. The daycare facility managed by the “Atelier dans la Ville” association will thus be transformed into a collective nursery, going from 19 to 28 places, while the Candide nursery, administered by the “L’Œuvre des Crèches” association, will see its capacity expanded from 21 to 24 places.
These amendments come in support of the demands of nursery workers, the opposition called for a strengthened plan to open more spaces as well as extended opening hours. For its part, the municipality reiterated its commitment and ambition to create 1,000 additional places by the end of its term, relying on the modernization of existing structures and support for private and associative projects.
Villa Paradiso transformed into a “Women’s House”
Faced with the alarming finding of 11 complaints of domestic violence recorded each day in Nice, the municipal council formalized the creation of a Women’s House within the prestigious Villa Paradiso. Already presented on September 25 by Zara Boutayeb, deputy in charge of women’s rights, alongside Éric Ciotti, this ambitious project valued at 2.2 million euros aims to end the ordeal of victims by creating an unprecedented one-stop shop in France.
The 1,300 m² of this former listed conservatory will bring together all essential needs over three levels. On the ground floor, the day reception center Pass’r’elles of the CCAS will provide social, legal and psychological support. On the first floor, the medical department transferred from the Archet University Hospital will bring together doctors, psychologists and midwives. And finally, the top floor will house 12 emergency accommodation rooms for immediate shelter before reorientation towards permanent housing.
To guarantee absolute peace of mind for residents, the site will make the strong choice of a public but ultra-secure address, placed under permanent video surveillance, 24/7 security, and direct liaison with law enforcement. Rehabilitation work will begin in November 2026 with a view to complete opening scheduled for autumn 2027.
Surprise reopening of MAMAC by the end of the year
At the end of the session, Éric Ciotti announced the imminent reopening of the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MAMAC) before the end of 2026. While the establishment was closed, the mayor of Nice deemed the prolonged closure “incomprehensible” of the city’s first museum, a precious setting for the collections of the Nice School, Yves Klein, Arman and César.
The municipality’s teams worked to reorganize the outdoor construction sites to make them compatible with the reinstallation of collections and visitor reception. With the exception of the top floor, which will remain temporarily inaccessible due to leaks in the structure, the vast majority of the museum’s spaces will reopen its doors to the public very soon.
