The inauguration of the new garden, Place de la Rรฉpublique, was the occasion for a morning full of flavors dedicated to the Father of French gastronomy, and the most famous resident of Villeneuve: Auguste Escoffier.
The bust that once stood on the town hall square returns to its original location, set amidst a magnificent garden.
Lecterns were presenting his famous dessert recipes: Peach Melba, Strawberries Sarah Bernhardt, and Pear Belle Hรฉlรจne.
That same morning, rich in tributes to the “King of Chefs and Chef of Kings,” there were other inaugurations: the Mardaric roundabout adorned with a portrait of Auguste Escoffier, laser-cut by artist Olivier Nottelet, on a 4m by 2m steel plate with varnished rust finishes, and the unveiling of the plaque from the “National Federation of Writers’ Houses & Literary Heritage,” which the Escoffier Museum of Culinary Art* has just joined.
Given his work, it seemed natural to include the chef’s birthplace in this Federation as a site of literary heritage.
