Azur Sport Organisation in partnership with the General Council of the Alpes-Maritimes officially launched the first edition of the Alpes-Maritimes Nice-Cannes Marathon during a press conference held on October 8th at the Palais Sarde in Nice in the presence of Christian ESTROSI, Secretary of State for Overseas Territories and President of the General Council of the Alpes-Maritimes, Pascal THIRIOT, President of Azur Sport Organisation, Bernard BROCHAND, Deputy Mayor of Cannes, Jean-Claude MARI, Deputy for Sports in Nice representing the Senator-Mayor of Nice, Jacques PEYRAT, Andrรฉ GIRAUD, Vice-President of the French Athletics Federation, and Philippe REMOND, elite marathon runner. Representatives from the cities of Saint-Laurent-du-Var, Cagnes-sur-Mer, Villeneuve-Loubet, Antibes Juan-les-Pins, and Vallauris Golfe-Juan were also among the guests.
This dream marathon, which will highlight the Alpes-Maritimes territory over 42.195 km on an exclusively coastal route, will take place on Sunday, November 9, 2008, and will connect Nice (Promenade des Anglais) to Cannes (Palais des Festivals et des Congrรจs) passing through Saint-Laurent-du-Var, Cagnes-sur-Mer, Villeneuve-Loubet, Antibes Juan-les-Pins, and Vallauris Golfe-Juan.
This exceptional path was thus unveiled for the first time thanks to a presentation of the route with computer-generated images revealing the most beautiful features of the Azurean coastline, which will undoubtedly delight the 10,000 expected runners.
Everyone welcomes this dream project that has finally become reality and hopes that the expectations of each will be met on November 9, 2008.
