A new life for the old Gare du Sud

Latest News

The former Gare du Sud in Nice is ready to come alive once more. Its new hall was inaugurated last Saturday in the presence of the city’s mayor, Christian Estrosi, who presented the development project for this place dear to many residents of Nice.

After extensive renovation work, the hall of the Gare du Sud is ready to be reborn and rehabilitated. Only the glass roofs and the illustrations of the infrastructure’s past will remind future visitors that this place was once a train station.

Starting in 2018, the site, classified as a historic monument, will become a meeting point for culture enthusiasts, with its Raoul Mille media library, the Libรฉration district market, a cinema, and a gourmet hall dedicated to food service.

The rest of the space will be converted into residential buildings for individuals and also for students, with a dedicated residence for them.

An underground parking lot with 770 spaces will also be constructed to accommodate all visitors and ensure smooth traffic flow in the neighborhood.

Many residents of Nice welcome this project, especially when one considers, as Christian Estrosi pointed out, that this station, decommissioned since 1991, nearly faced complete demolition.

As a twist of fate, the former station is accessible to everyone by tram.

The complete delivery of the development is scheduled for the end of 2018.
