A new response to violence against women: the future Sainte-Catherine family house

Latest News

The construction of a new structure, which will be added to those already active in Nice, began on the symbolic day of International Women’s Day with the laying of the first stone of the Sainte-Catherine residence, which will be a family home intended to accommodate mothers with their children.

“This Sainte-Catherine residence will be there to shelter and protect women victims of violence but also all those who suffer, victims of exclusion, injustice, and discrimination,” stated Christian Estrosi on this occasion.

In this new House, which will be managed by the Communal Center for Social Action, everything will be done to help women regain their autonomy and take control of their lives through constant social and psychological support, adapted living spaces, and group workshops.

Moreover, the reference to the chosen name, Sainte-Catherine, allows for a brief quote from her opus “Dialogue,” which aligns well with this mission: “with the weapons of gentleness, love, and peace.”

This achievement, with the Maison Familiale de Provence as the project manager and with construction set to be completed in a year, plans for 20 housing units.

Sainte-Catherine will be the 16th accommodation structure and integrates with other active units that fulfill an essential role in daily support for the most vulnerable and disadvantaged.

In addition to housing and services, a helpline at 3919 and a website are dedicated to addressing the tragedy of violence.

Additionally, in 2011, the municipal observatory, originally municipal and now metropolitan, records these crimes and considers solutions to address them.
