A new series of lectures: “Nice, Muse and Mirror of Musical Inspiration”

Latest News

The new lecture series dedicated to music is inaugurated by the lyrical voices of the Mediterranean Lyric Art Center with the concert “The Great Successes of a Nice Diva. Tribute to Cruvelli,” this Friday at 8 PM at the Saint-Franรงois-de-Paule Church.

This concert will evoke, with arias from Bellini, Verdi, or Rossini, the lyrical life in Nice during the Belle ร‰poque, through the story of the great singer Sophie Cruvelli. By marrying Viscount Vigier in 1855, Sophie Cruvelli withdrew from theater when she was at the height of her glory: “An irreplaceable actress, a voice without equal, a star extinguishes in the sky of art… an absolutely irreparable loss.”

The lecture series (meeting every Saturday at 3 PM at the Mamac auditorium) includes the following program:

Saturday, October 21: “Nice, Muse and Mirror of Inspiration” by Pierrette Mari, musicologist, composer, and professor at the Paris Sorbonne University-Paris IV

Saturday, November 18: “Architecture and Music of the Nice Baroque” or how the Gesรน, the Mercy, Sainte-Rรฉparate, and the Abbey of Saint-Pons sounded by Annick Dubois, lecturer at the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis (Musicology)

Saturday, November 25: “The Music Autograph Album of the Cessole Family” by Robert Adelson, professor of music history and organology โ€“ Conservatory of Nice

Saturday, December 2: “The Harmony of the Annexation, the Political Role of Music in Nice in 1860 and Its Main Actors” by Frรฉdรฉric Fuochi, musicologist responsible for the digital department of the Louis Nucรฉra Library
