From February 11th to 23rd, Carrefour Nice TNL and Carrefour Lingostiรจre, in partnership with the company Ecotextile, are collecting all worn, outdated, and too-small jeans from their customers. While the jeans can have holes, they must be clean and in good condition.
As part of its waste reduction policy, Carrefour hypermarkets have initiated this campaign to raise awareness among consumers about recycling clothing. In 2014, a similar textile collection initiative succeeded in collecting 65 tons of clothing.
Ecotextile is a company specializing in the collection of used textiles. It sorts the clothing and handles their recovery. 43% are intended for retail sale in the national and international market, and 30% are repurposed as industrial wiping cloths. The items in the worst condition are sent to shredding companies for fiber recovery (12%). What cannot be recycled (15%) is destroyed.
