This Tuesday, April 17, 2012, on the occasion of the International Day of Peasant Struggles, the Confédération Paysanne 06 and the PECOS of Nice are organizing a mobilization on the theme of land access for farmers with the screening of the film “Tous au Larzac” at the Zonmé in Nice. Agribio, Terre de Liens, Les Perdigones, Artisans du Monde will participate in the debate. Meet at 6:30 PM at 7 bis, rue des Combattants en Afrique du Nord.
Agriculture, especially subsistence farming, is threatened worldwide. The pressure on land, often leading to irreversible changes in the purpose of agricultural land, plays a significant role in this issue.
The Alpes-Maritimes department is one of the most affected by the problem of access to agricultural land in France: the institutional desire to concrete over the department, from the coast to the hinterland (OIN project in the Var plain, construction of an arguably unnecessary stadium, High-Speed Train Line, excessive urbanization of the peripheral towns of Nice, construction of secondary homes on agricultural land), is causing a surge in agricultural land prices, making it increasingly difficult for new farmers to settle in a department already struggling in this domain.
Program:
6 PM: Press conference with representatives of Confédération Paysanne 06, Agribio 06, the associations Les Perdigones and Aqui Sien Ben (land preservation in Levens and Carros), Alliance Provence, Artisans du Monde, Terre de Liens. Recently settled farmers will also testify about the challenges they faced in accessing land when they first started.
7 PM: Dinner featuring local products, offered by the association La Zonmé, which is hosting us for the occasion.
8:30 PM: Screening of the film “Tous au Larzac,” followed by a debate.
