From Limousin to Normandy via Charolais, all farm animal species become the Stars until Sunday.

Last weekend, through the General Agricultural Competition, many professionals found recognition from their peers. Three categories participate in the General Competition. Of course, the 2,200 animals, divided into 7 species, the 16,000 vintners, 4,000 producers, and finally the competition for the 10,000 young professionals of the Show.

The Alpes-Maritimes did not lag behind. For its 122nd edition, the Competition, under the aegis of the Ministry of Agriculture, awarded 14 medals, including 6 gold and 8 silver to the department’s producers. This again shows its rich terroir to the entire Hexagon. And it is the olive growers who once again took center stage. The Nice AOC olive oil (Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée) obtained the most beautiful medals three times. The Grassoise Monique Brault, Jacqueline Bellinot from Escarène, and the mill of Castagniers won gold for their exceptional oil.

On her 2-hectare field, Monique Brault has been cultivating for 12 years on the heights of Grasse an olive oil in organic farming guaranteed without pesticides. With aromas of raw artichokes, cut grass, some notes of almonds, and broom flowers, her oil reveals its full flavor. Already medaled in previous editions, some succeeded in achieving the Grail. Thus, it’s a beautiful showcase for the entire profession in the department.

Yet another proof that Nice olive oil is of first-quality. Compared to many, it retains a particular flavor. The Azurean cuisine would not be the same without it. Many dishes are often accompanied by this beautiful green liquor. We can mention the olive oil from Puget-Théniers, Menton, and Hautes Vallées. Note also the double medal, gold and silver, for François and Patricia Guérinot for their dark “mountain honey” and their “cru” honey.
