All at the Borders: 5,000 European Feminists Expected

Latest News

Feminists from all over Europe are meeting for the first time for a large march in Nice to defend women, lesbians, trans people, and victims of violence during migrations. 5,000 protesters are expected to attend, each holding a kite: a symbol of freedom and fragility.

Toutes Aux Frontières is an event envisioned by Pinar Selek in 2019 during the women’s march in Geneva. Selek is a female anti-military activist and Turkish writer living in exile in Nice. She worries about the fate of “migrant women who are never talked about. They are invisible. Yet they represent 54% of migrants, a number higher than men and children. Women who are victims of sexual violence, prostitution networks, abuse, domestic slavery, and often in severe administrative insecurity.”

The idea of creating a first international action germinated. Nice was chosen for the first act. A large gathering for a city located near a border. Toutes Aux Frontières is growing quickly. Today, about a hundred feminist, lesbian, and trans associations support the call for mobilization, especially in Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, the Netherlands, and even Russia.

The gathering is set to start at 11am at Place Masséna in Nice.

– 1pm: The Toutes aux Frontières choir is expected to sing
– 1:30pm: The march will start from Place Masséna to Place Garibaldi. There will be speeches in several languages, dances, batucada, etc.

And while passing on the Promenade des Anglais, the feminists plan to fly kites. These are symbols of “travel, freedom, and fragility because it can tear,” clarifies Pinar Selek.
