As part of the policy to integrate people with disabilities, the city of Nice is organizing five days of sports and recreational activities dedicated to people with disabilities, from Monday, June 4 to Friday, June 8.
This friendly and festive event, sponsored by Patrice Baraterro, the 2011 International Para Snowboard Champion, and Valérie Nicolas, World Handball Champion and Captain of OGC Nice Handball, aims to demonstrate that despite physical or mental differences, everyone has the capacity to achieve performances, symbols of self-surpassing through effort.
It also allows people with mental, physical, or sensory disabilities to be valued through adapted sports practices and thus experience the same sensations as able-bodied participants.
This year, to bring the slogan “All Together” to life and facilitate the acceptance of differences, several able-bodied adults and children (particularly from the Raymond Moretti, Saint Antoine de Ginestière schools, and Don Bosco college) will participate in these “better living together” days.
– Various activities will be offered:
Sports: climbing with the help of an adapted wall, horseback riding, sea trips, swimming, football, table tennis, handball, judo, mountain biking, pétanque, ice skating initiation, tandem cycling, gymnastics, running/wheelchair racing, sailing initiation, speleology… Association stands will present the activities and services they offer to people with disabilities.
The activities offered are adapted to the types, degrees, and varieties of disabilities and allow each participant to discover different families of sports activities.
Cultural: for the first time during the “all together days,” a bilingual French/sign language show presented by the Signes Company and the screening of the film “A Monster in Paris” with subtitles at the Nice cinematheque.
– Some figures on these days:
44 centers or establishments are registered for this event, covering all generations and disabilities (ages 6 to 70). Across all the proposed disciplines, more than 3,000 sports acts will be accomplished. Over 2,000 meals will be distributed throughout the week.
