Christian Estrosi is always on the move and looking forward. The 580,000 residents of Nice who visit the municipal swimming pools annually are well served.
After his plan to become a “green” city, Nice is introducing another of a different color… “blue”.

The expression “Green&Blue” city is in vogue. So… let’s go!

Yesterday afternoon, the mayor of Nice announced 120 million euros over ten years for his “swimming pool plan”. It includes the renovation of five pools and the construction of five others, two of which will be saltwater pools, spread between the port and the Carras port.

The mayor of Nice’s observation is as follows: firstly, the current pools are inadequate and energy-consuming. Secondly, “15% of children in Nice cannot swim when they enter sixth grade.” Thirdly, the number of water facilities is below the French average ratio: “We should have 35 pools, but we only have 10.”

So, everything is being packed up and started over… Consequently, Nice is launching its “swimming pool plan” and allocating 120 million euros over ten years to renovate and build. In total, five pools will be rehabilitated and five new ones will be constructed.

The pools to be renovated:

  • L’Ariane: 2 million euros for an opening in 2022.
  • Saint Roch: 4.3 million euros for an opening between 2025 and 2026.
  • Saint Augustin: 4.2 million euros, opening in 2026.
  • Comte Falicon: 7.2 million euros, opening in 2027.
  • Le Piole: complete demolition and reconstruction for an opening in 2028.

The new facilities:

  • At the Citรฉ des Sports: two 50-meter pools (one covered, the other open), a learning pool, a hydro-fitness area, and a wellness space. The total cost is 30 million euros, with an opening planned for 2026.
  • At the port Carras: a brand new nautical base with two saltwater pools: 30×20 and 15×20. Includes a wellness area with sauna and hammam. Scheduled for delivery at the beginning of 2028.
  • At the port of Nice: a 25-meter saltwater pool and a health and wellness space. Budget: 15 million euros, with an opening by the end of 2025.
