Mรฉtรฉo France inaugurated on Friday at Nice Cรดte d’Azur International Airport a radar presented as the first of its kind at this type of site.
It analyzes clouds to prevent take-off and landing delays when the weather is rainy.
One specificity: this equipment, costing one million euros, can only be used in bad weather.
The radar can probe the clouds around the airport to determine whether they are composed of, for example, rain or hail, and at what speed they are approaching.
Shear phenomena, in particular, during which the wind can change speed and direction causing significant turbulence, can thus be better understood.
