Out goes Pierre Breuil from Limoges, whose term will be remembered for the disappearance of the mega stadium in Nice, and in comes Dominique Vian, the new prefect of the Alpes-Maritimes. He comes directly from the Ministry of Overseas Territories where he was the chief of staff for the Chirac-era minister Franรงois Baroin.
Born in 1944, this senior civil servant spent the majority of his career in overseas departments: he has been secretary-general, sub-prefect in Guadeloupe, and then prefect of French Guiana from February 1997 to August 1999. On June 23, 1999, Jean-Pierre Chevรจnement, the Minister of the Interior, made him available to the U.N. to serve as the Deputy Representative for Kosovo, in charge of civil administration,
He was appointed prefect of Guadeloupe from August 2002 to July 2004 and prefect of Rรฉunion in August 2004, until his appointment to Franรงois Baroin’s cabinet.
And this is where we start to worry. Have we satellite-positioned the Alpes-Maritimes department in the middle of the ocean that we now appoint a specialist in overseas departments there?
In the meantime, welcome Mr. Prefect. You will find the sun and the deep blue sea, far from Rue Oudinot. Our colleague from Rรฉunion, www.temoignages.re, tells us that you love the sea (no problem there, we have it), the pleasures of the table (you’re going to be spoiled) and big-game fishing: well, you wonโt be disappointed…
