The CNOSF ultimately recommended maintaining the exclusion of AS Monaco Basket from professional championships for the 2026-2027 season this Friday afternoon. Following the arrival of a new investor, the Monegasque club is now requesting a re-examination of its situation by the FFBB.
AS Monaco Basket is still not entered in Betclic Élite for the 2026-2027 season. Referred to in the context of a conciliation procedure, the French National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSF) recommended Friday the maintenance of the decision made by French basketball authorities. La Roca Team thus remains excluded from Betclic Élite and Élite 2.
This decision comes the day after the announcement of the arrival of a new investor in the club’s capital. An agribusiness industrialist is to contribute ten million euros for the 2026-2027 season. AS Monaco Basket believes that this development changes the financial data of the file previously presented to the authorities.
The Principality club had already suffered two rejections.The National Management Control Board (DNCCG) had refused entry into Betclic Élite and Élite 2 on July 3. The FFBB federal appeals chamber had confirmed this decision on August 1.
Monaco requests a new review of its file
AS Monaco Basket therefore filed on Friday with the FFBB Federal Bureau. The approach is based on article 925 of federal regulations. The club is asking the Appeals Chamber to urgently re-examine its situation with a view to entry into Betclic Élite for the 2026-2027 season.
The request is based on changes that have occurred since the previous decision. The press release notably mentions the settlement of historical liabilities to suppliers and third parties, as well as agreements involving the waiver of shareholder receivables. The new investor has, for his part, committed to mobilizing ten million euros for the next fiscal year.
AS Monaco Basket believes that these new elements can be examined within the framework provided by article 925. The club maintains that it is not requesting a modification of the rules in its favor, but wishes its current situation to be taken into account. “We are simply asking that they be applied to AS Monaco as it presents itself today.”
The Monegasque file had undergone several changes over the course of the summer. The project around former NBA player Jamal Mashburn had not made it possible to raise the expected funds. Mashburn ultimately withdrew from the project on August 19. Another plan, led notably by Romain Goiran and Benjamin Erisoglu, had subsequently emerged before the arrival of the new investor announced Thursday.
The CNOSF, however, considered that these new elements could not be taken into account within the conciliation procedure. The conciliator was to examine the club’s situation as it had been presented at the appeal hearing on July 20.
The AS Monaco Basket press release also details the financial elements now presented to the authorities. The club mentions the treatment of historical liabilities, agreements concluded with creditors, the investment transaction, obligations to the Euroleague, and securing financing for the 2026-2027 season.
The club also states it is ready to accept additional oversight in the event of a return to Betclic Élite. Financial monitoring mechanisms or special conditions could accompany entry if the federal authorities deem these guarantees necessary.
AS Monaco Basket also acknowledges the difficulties encountered since the beginning of the procedure. “We acknowledge the difficulties the club has faced. We acknowledge that mistakes were made and that at different stages of the procedure, the competent authorities did not have all the guarantees they were legitimately entitled to expect. We take responsibility for this. But taking responsibility also means knowing how to correct what needed to be corrected.”
La Roca Team now intends to demonstrate that the measures taken make it possible to address the concerns previously raised. The request addressed to the Federal Bureau therefore aims to have the new guarantees examined rather than simply to revisit decisions already made.
“Continue to be part of the French basketball family”
Beyond the financial aspect, AS Monaco Basket emphasizes the sporting and human consequences of a withdrawal from French professional basketball. The press release mentions players, coaches, employees, partners and supporters, but also the role the club has played in French basketball in recent years.
The 2025-2026 season had notably seen Monaco win the French championship title, as well as the French Cup, the Leaders Cup and the Supercup. The club had also reached the quarter-finals of the Euroleague. However, AS Monaco Basket clarifies that this record does not constitute the financial argument for its request.
“AS Monaco wants to continue to be part of the French basketball family. We want Gaston Médecin to continue to welcome France’s great clubs. We want our players to continue to fight for the French Championship title.”
The club also reiterates its desire to continue its activity while respecting the requirements of financial oversight. “We are not asking anyone to forget the difficulties of the past. We are asking for the opportunity to demonstrate that we have learned from them, that we have acted and that we have corrected what needed to be corrected. Today, our wish is to be able to continue this story with French basketball, and not outside of it.”
The ball is now in the court of the FFBB Federal Bureau. The body will have to determine whether the new elements presented by AS Monaco Basket justify a new referral to the Appeals Chamber. The club is requesting entry into Betclic Élite for the 2026-2027 season, while saying it is willing to accept additional guarantees or oversight measures.
