The seniors of Nice went to the Casino Ruhl in Nice for a Carnival ball. For this annual event, 270 of them attended. And all in costume! Here, it’s no joke and, at the end of the ball, the best costume was rewarded.
Since 2008, seniors have participated every year in the Nice Carnival. They are featured on a float dedicated to them during the carnival parade, and each year, a ball is organized so that all the seniors in Nice can meet and enjoy an afternoon of dance and good cheer. In addition to the grand city Carnival, they will also participate in neighborhood carnivals.
Everyone is moving, and everyone is dressed up, but everyone is also drinking! The Casino provided a room with two dance floors and a bar where guests can enjoy a glass of champagne.
The musical part was assured by Pascal Palomba, who already hosts the balls at the Palais de la Méditerranée, organized every Friday and Sunday.
Why are seniors in the spotlight during the carnival? Simply because it is a real “fountain of youth,” as explained by Jean-Michel Galy, City Councilor and Delegate for Senior Citizenship.
The Senior Citizenship Delegation of the city of Nice also organizes many other events. For example, Star Seniors has become a national event in the past two years, where excellent voices are discovered.
Moreover, in 2015, senior Olympic games will be organized. They will include 24 Olympic events, with 6,000 to 7,000 participants, and no fewer than 100 nations will be present.
“I have seen them train, it’s impressive!” exclaimed the city councilor. The age of the players will range from 60 to 100 years old! There is indeed something to be impressed about.
