Parliamentarians from more than 50 countries are expected to debate under the theme “The OSCE: A Region in Transition.”

Participants will discuss and vote on more than 30 resolutions covering:
· Economic recovery,
· The Iranian nuclear program,
· Democracy in the Arab world,
· Military cooperation,
· Human rights, particularly in Belarus, Russia, and Ukraine.

The session will also include a Mediterranean Forum with delegations from the Middle East and North Africa – the first meeting of its kind since the organization of democratic elections in Tunisia and Egypt.

“Conferences like this are essential for supporting democracy throughout our region,” explains Jean-François Robillon, President of the National Council of Monaco and host of the session. “We look forward to welcoming such a diverse group of leaders to Monaco in July to discuss crucial current political issues.”

The session will conclude on July 9 with the election of the Assembly’s leadership and the adoption of the Monaco Declaration, which will help shape the policy of the OSCE and its participating states.

“Parliamentary debate is the appropriate platform to have the voice of the people heard and reflected in our economic policies,” said Spencer Oliver, Secretary General of the Assembly. “The challenges facing the Eurozone affect all our nations, which is why the OSCE, with its Asian and North American members, is well-placed to host this debate.”
