Ballet Evenings at the Nice Opera: Picasso and Dance.

Latest News

Europa Danse was created in 1999 by Jean-Albert Cartier and Hélène Traïline to offer young European dancers a bridge between the end of their studies and the beginning of their professional careers. Coming from different schools, nationalities, and cultures, they are faced with group life with only their age (18–20 years) and their love of dance as common denominators. These young dancers will perform on Friday, October 9, and Saturday, October 10, at the Opéra de Nice.

The “Picasso and Dance” program includes 4 ballets: “Parade” (1917) based on an argument by Jean Cocteau and music by Erik Satie, “Pulcinella” (1920) with music by Igor Stravinsky, after Pergolesi, and new choreography by Ana Maria Stekelman, “Mercure” (1924) after music by Erik Satie and new choreography by Thierry Malandain, and finally, “Cuadro Flamenco” (1921) a suite of Andalusian dances, with choreography restaged and adapted by Beatriz Martin and Ricardo Franco, with the collaboration of the Flamenco School of the Royal Conservatory of Madrid. These ballets are presented with sets and costumes based on the original models of the creation in agreement with the “Succession Picasso 2009”.
