Basketball: Cavigal bounces back

Latest News

The Niss’Angels secured a home victory last night against Mondeville with a score of 74-67. The team from the Azure Coast resumed their forward march after last week’s defeat against Angers. This victory allows them to stay in touch with the league leaders and a possible European spot.

After 19 matches, the Cavigal women, newly promoted this year, occupy the sixth place in the championship, just one point shy of the podium. With their stay in the league already secured, the club’s now nearly stated goal is a European ticket for next season. And last night against Mondeville, they demonstrated that they will be serious contenders to achieve it.

The Ambrosia Anderson Show

The first half was balanced, with both teams exchanging blows. The audience was treated to a showdown between two of the top scorers in the championship: Ambrosia Anderson for Cavigal and Marine Johannes for Mondeville.

Both shooting guards showcased their scoring prowess and carried their teams on their shoulders. However, Mondeville ended the first quarter ahead, thanks to two three-pointers: 14-18 in favor of the Normans.

In the second quarter, the back-and-forth between the two teams continued. Marine Johannes maintained her momentum, and for the Niss’Angels, it was this time Courtney Hurt, a former Mondeville player for two seasons, who took charge.

The American was well-supported by Hind Ben Abdelkader, with the duo contributing 11 points during the period. The two teams were tied at halftime, 34-34.

The Niss’Angels Take Control

Returning from the locker room, the team from the Azure Coast shifted gears. They delivered an 11-2 run against the visitors in the first half of the quarter, thanks notably to the trio of Hurt, Anderson, and Diawara. They scored 15 of their team’s 20 points in the third period.

Defensively, the Nice players regained their aggression, leaving no open shots for the Normans. The home team led going into the final quarter with a score of 54-47.

In the last act, the team from the Azure Coast controlled the tempo of the game. Both teams resumed their back-and-forth but the Nice players remained solid in both defense and attack.

Alice Nayo took charge of the game, scoring 8 points in this period. On her side, Djéné Diawara continued her relentless work in the paint, and the Nice players ultimately won with a score of 74-67.

The Niss’Angels thus recorded their ninth home victory out of ten matches played. It was a great win, as five Nice players scored at least ten points. They will need to confirm this success on the court in Calais next Saturday.
