The Nice Côte d’Azur Chamber of Commerce and Industry hosted the premiere of the short film L’Étau. The screening, followed by a meet and greet with the entire film crew, allowed the Nice audience to discover this film just before its official selection at the Short Film Corner, the short film competition of the 2011 Cannes Film Festival. The film will also be in competition at the Milan Festival, which will take place next October.

A mysterious man wanders through the old town of Antibes and visits a shop selling artisanal toys, lingering over a boat. He later finds this same boat in the depths of the sea, but with a hand attached to a chain that gradually pulls it down…
This work presents us with a chiaroscuro story open to multiple interpretations. Between mythological legend and fantastic tale, the writing offered to us blends the surreal and the dreamlike. A perpetual movement aiming to prolong a redundant emotion, a nightmarish impression that challenges the unconscious of the viewer, allowing them to project their own fears and anxieties.
With a twist ending, this film calls for deep reflection on topics such as the transition from childhood to adulthood, ranging from the loss of innocence and naivety to the emergence of awareness and guilt.
The choice to shoot much of the film in black and white only reinforces the idea of a collective consciousness that monochromatically imposes its vision of existence.
