Cagnes-sur-Mer: The Fight Against Illiteracy at the Heart of a School Project

Latest News

In the context of its activities in the fight against illiteracy, the Rotary Club Cagnes Grimaldi proposed to develop a project in partnership with the schools of the commune of Cagnes-sur-Mer.

Launched in December, this spelling contest project involves 600 of the 6,500 primary school students. The objectives of this contest are grounded in the current programs aimed at supporting the efforts of students during their education and assisting school teachers in their pedagogical approach.

The National Education inspection of the Cagnes-sur-Mer district proposed that CM1 and CM2 teachers participate in a spelling contest. This district has 6,500 students across 36 primary schools, 250 classes, and 310 teachers spread across two communes: Cagnes-sur-Mer and Saint-Laurent-du-Var.

For the first edition of this project, 23 classes totaling more than 600 children responded favorably to this invitation.

Organized from December to June 2014, this contest aims for progression in learning, supported by volunteer teachers.

A practice dictation taken from children’s literature will be sent monthly to schools (from January to April).

In May, the 2 best students per class will be selected.

In June, a final competition will be held at a school. It will gather the 30 selected students. On this occasion, all participating students will be rewarded, and the top three will receive a more significant gift (tablet, booksโ€ฆ).
