Even though cancer is still detected every year in 400,000 French people, and 150,000 die from it today, the Covid-19 crisis is already causing a decrease in donations estimated at 10 million euros, with catastrophic financial consequences for the League Against Cancer, funded by more than 93% from the generosity of the French people.
“The fight against cancer remains as essential as ever, let’s not lay down our arms against this formidable enemy!” exclaims Professor Axel Khan, national president of the association.
In a period where their need for support and assistance is stronger than ever, the funding of research projects, particularly those of young researchers, essential for advancing the fight against cancer, is also at risk of being affected.
“The League Against Cancer has been fighting for more than 100 years by funding research but not only that! We provide valuable support to sick people and their loved ones whom the disease burdens financially, professionally, psychologically, family-wise, and socially. Our concerns are real, and the future of many of our social actions is compromised. How will we be able to continue our missions calmly in the coming months and years if this decrease in donations, nearly 10 million euros, is confirmed at this scale?” responds Professor Axel Kahn, president of the League Against Cancer.
