Erick Lefert, Sports Director: “We are very satisfied with the results in Montpellier. Our swimmers had not specifically prepared for this event. Camille Muffat returned from Melbourne less than a month ago and is more focused on preparing for the French Championships at the end of June in St Raphael, while the rest of the team is more oriented towards the Junior Championships.
Their goals last weekend were to match or get close to their times under challenging and tiring conditions.
Mission accomplished, the 5 medals from Clément and Camille are a great success at this French Cup.”
Indeed, Clément Lefert won the bronze and improved his times over the 3 butterfly distances – 50m, 100m, and 200m. Being the only junior on these podiums, he is one of the most promising swimmers in this discipline:
– 50m: GOLD Fréderick Bousquet, SILVER Christophe Lebon, BRONZE Clément Lefert in 25.16
– 100m: GOLD Christophe Lebon, SILVER Fréderick Bousquet, BRONZE Clément Lefert in 54.60
– 200m: GOLD Pierre Roger, SILVER Christophe Lebon, BRONZE Clément Lefert in 2:00.59 (his best time of the season)
Camille Muffat won GOLD twice: in the 200m individual medley, her specialty, in 2:16.03 and in the 50m butterfly in 28.09.
Fabrice Pellerin is pleased with all the results from his group, particularly the participation of two swimmers from Nice in the same final, the 50m freestyle: Elsa Trujillo and Camille Muffat, and the 5th place in the 200m butterfly final by the young Camille Coste who joined ONN this year. Yannick Agnel achieved the best French performance for a 15-year-old in the 50m freestyle at 24.41, which is noteworthy as it makes him a candidate for a national selection at COMEN in June. At ONN we have a leading figure but also younger members from the club’s training ready to take over.
For Camille, it’s a very busy period during which she needs to organize herself: the baccalaureate exams in June, the French Championships which will qualify for the 2008 European Championships. Within the club, she is not the only one hoping for this qualification; there is also Clément Lefert who could qualify for the European minima in the 200m butterfly.
For both, it will be through significant hard work until the end of June.
