Culture is at the heart of this Monday, September 4th, with the performance by Lisandro, winner of The Voice 2017, at Lycée Les Côteaux in Cannes. Two major firsts on this school start day with a musical beginning, attended by the rector and the inspector of the Nice Academy.
Organized in collaboration with the city of Cannes, the event gathered much more than just students and teachers. There’s nothing better than a musical start to welcome and reassure new students!
The high school students gradually fill the courtyard in front of the stage. Emmanuel Ethis, rector of the Nice Academy, explains one of the reasons for starting the school year with a song: “The Minister of National Education and the Minister of Culture wanted, in accordance with the program of the President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron, to focus on 100% artistic and cultural. We will strive towards that. Cannes is a symbolic city for this because the mayor has been engaged in this approach for several years. We shall succeed.”
A good idea to encourage young people to cultivate themselves. The show is in the center of this technical high school, surrounded by buildings and a garden decorated with busts dressed in gowns, themselves created by students’ hands. In a serious but reassuring tone, the new principal as well as the city’s mayor, the elected Philippe Tabarot, and the rector take turns speaking before the show starts. Some wish to be encouraging for this new school year, like the principal: “I invite you to sow the best of yourself.”
Others remind the importance of culture to build the school of confidence. “Whether one is rich or poor, one can build a cultural capital. Culture is an element that unites. Ours is beautiful, aesthetic and it’s a principal asset we can pass on to our youth. Music is a fundamental element, it’s technical, it requires effort but it’s also a shared emotion,” explained David Lisnard.
“I have music on the right and the school year on the left“
“I can hardly wait to make this high school dance,” rejoiced Lisandro Cuxi before his performance. Said and done. He steps onto the stage like a star in his own high school. Before starting, he wishes to remind his classmates the importance of the Baccalauréat. He, who will take it this year, understands the magnitude of the challenge. Nonetheless, there’s no question of leaving the stage; he prefers to do “a mix of both.”
Through performances of “Love on the Brain” by Rihanna and “Elle m’a aimé” by Kendji Girac, followed by his single “Danser,” the singer from Cannes managed to get his classmates moving and singing. “I have music on the right and the school year on the left,” he later confides. With his next album titled “Ma bonne étoile” set to release on September 15, this month is likely to be busy for the young man.
