The Alpes-Maritimes places three beaches in the ranking of the most photographed beaches in France in 2025. La Croisette in Cannes holds first place, while Castel Plage and Opéra Plage allow Nice to appear twice in the national Top 20.
The coastline of the Alpes-Maritimes confirms its appeal to vacationers. A study based on millions of photos taken in 2025 ranks three beaches in the department among the twenty most photographed beaches in France.
La Croisette beach in Cannes arrives in first position with a Photo Index Score of 100. This result places the famous Cannes seafront ahead of all the French beaches analyzed.
Nice appears twice in the ranking. Castel Plage holds eighth place with a Photo Index Score of 57. Located at the foot of Castle Hill, the beach is among the most photographed places in the Bay of Angels. Opéra Plage ranks twelfth. Located on the Promenade des Anglais, a few steps from Old Town Nice, the beach completes Nice’s presence in the national ranking.
In total, the Alpes-Maritimes has three beaches among the top twenty, more than any other French department.
The French Riviera dominates the rankings
The ranking also highlights the place of the French Riviera among the most photographed destinations. Behind La Croisette, Pampelonne beach in Ramatuelle, in the Var, holds second place with a Photo Index Score of 86.
The rest of the Top 10 consists of Étretat beach, Le Touquet, La Baule, Grande Plage des Sables-d’Olonne, Cabourg beach, Berck Plage, and Palombaggia in Corsica.
The study is based on the analysis of millions of geolocated photographs taken by users of the Popsa application during 2025. The photos were matched to different French beaches using location metadata. Each site then received a Photo Index Score, established based on the volume of photos recorded. A score of 100 corresponds to the most photographed beach in the study, with other results calculated proportionally.
This snapshot of travelers’ habits confirms the strong visibility of Alpes-Maritimes beaches. Between La Croisette in Cannes highlighted during the Cannes Film Festival and the two Nice beaches in the ranking, the department holds a prominent place among the most photographed destinations by visitors.
