The World Travel Awards have named the city of Cannes the “Best European Destination for Festivals and Events 2022”. This is the second consecutive year that the city has received this nomination.
This victory gives great recognition to the reputation of Cannes’ event ecosystem. It is the second time the city has received this prestigious title from the World Travel Awards, considered the Oscars of Tourism. Cannes is placed in first position against many European capitals, such as London, Budapest, Barcelona, and Dublin.
Mr. David Lisner, Mayor of Cannes, spoke following this nomination.
“Once again, the World Travel Awards reward the commitment and mobilization, alongside the Town Hall and SEMEC, of all Cannes’ socioprofessionals who make our city the ideal destination for Festivals and Events, with a genuine constant desire for excellence.”
An Exceptional 2022 in Cannes
This year, no fewer than 60 professional events took place at the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès, setting a record. Among these was the 75th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, which saw immense success, with major stars attending the event. Tom Cruise, Anne Hathaway, Julia Roberts, Isabelle Huppert, and others came for the latest edition.
Jean-Michel Arnaud, President of the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès de Cannes, also commented on this nomination.
“This new award at the World Travel Awards is the result of years of work carried out by the teams at the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès. Thus, this title highlights the achievement of the Palais’ purpose ‘to sustainably welcome the world.’”
But this is not the only Cannes meeting that was successful this year. Numerous events in the MICE sector also saw significant participation.
- The MIPIM (International Market for Real Estate Professionals) had over 20,000 participants from more than 80 countries.
- The Cannes Lions gathered nearly 15,000 participants.
- The Yachting Cannes Festival attracted over 54,000 visitors.
Also noteworthy is the TFWA World Exhibition & Conference. The event will take place from October 3 to 6, and it already promises to be promising.
