On May 12th, the W gallery will set up in Cannes, at 19 rue des รtats-Unis.
The W Gallery is on rue Lepic in Paris. It was 35 square meters 10 years ago. Today, it is nearly 1000 cubic meters of exhibition space. A building of art in Montmartre. Something happens there every day. 7 days a week. Around twenty artists โ living contemporaries โ form the core of the space.
W doesn’t just create its nest at Abbesses. W also sets up elsewhere. All the time. It occupies the Champs Elysรฉes or the Paris metro, makes an appearance at the Saint-Brieuc Art Rock Festival… It lets its artists and their works travel to the south of France, the รle de Rรฉ, Luxembourg, Boston, New York, Phuket, Beijing, along Route 66… At W, art is everywhere and must be elsewhere: in the streets, businesses, cities, lives.
So when Arnaud Ferey, from the Isambert Group, a contemporary art collector, offered to provide the W Gallery with a street-level space โ and not just any street โ in Cannes… The adventure was too tempting to resist.
Suspicious coincidences: Eric Landau โ the boss โ is from Cannes. And the rue des รtats-Unis sounds like a prelude to a W Gallery in New York.
