The city of Nice held a press conference yesterday to present the security measures implemented for the new edition of the Carnival.
Christian Estrosi, president of the PACA region, led the press conference alongside Philippe Pradal, the mayor of Nice, and Rudy Salles, deputy mayor. The new prefect Georges-Franรงois Leclerc was also present, which pleased Christian Estrosi.
Indeed, Estrosi did not hesitate to criticize (an obsession of his?) the former prefect Adolphe Colrat, notably pointing out that “before, we did not have access to the prefecture’s figures.”
In front of the press, the former mayor of Nice was pleased to see a budget “increased from 10,000 to 70,000 euros,” and then announced the future arrangements for “his” Carnival. In total, 36 security gates will be installed to filter entries, guarded by 200 private security agents “whose identity documents will be examined by the prefect before they receive their accreditation.”
The president of the PACA region added: “It is important to come without bags to facilitate the checks. No bags mean less time and therefore smoother checks.”
The municipal police will of course be mobilized at the exits. They will be supported by the city’s 1,650 cameras. A traffic diversion plan will also be put in place, so as not to overly disrupt drivers.
