“Carros at the heart of ‘Smart Grids’ challenges: the pilot site has been inaugurated”

A unifying and ambitious project, NICE GRID is the first European smart solar district demonstrator. Located in the Carros area at the heart of the Nice Cรดte d’Azur metropolis, the NICE GRID project is developing the future electrical system by harmoniously integrating a high proportion of local photovoltaic electricity production, energy storage units, and communicating electrical equipment in volunteer households.

Offering users the opportunity to manage their energy positions, NICE GRID aims to transform consumers into genuine “consum’actors.” This Friday, in the presence of authorities and consortium company representatives, the inauguration of the showroom located in the Z.A de la Grave is taking place.

Selected as part of the first ‘future investment program,’ the innovative technologies-based NICE GRID smart solar district demonstrator relies on the Linky smart meter and existing electrical infrastructures to test the entire smart electrical grid concept (Smart Grid).

NICE GRID aims to create a technological showcase and a pilot site in Carros in the field of smart and sustainable environmental management, which was inaugurated yesterday by authorities and responsible individuals from various involved companies.

For Antoine Damiani, mayor of Carros: “The consumption of electrical energyโ€”specifically its managementโ€”represents a major challenge for the coming decades.

From now on, it is no longer sufficient to rely solely on the current electrical systemโ€”nuclear, thermal, hydroelectric plants, etc.โ€”regardless of its high performance level in France.

The “dual” approach of traditional electricity production and renewable energies appears to be the solution to meet future challenges.

With the installation of smart meters in their homes, residents of an entire neighborhood in Carros will be part of the “revolution” unfolding in this field.”

It is Christian Estrosi, president of the Metropolis, who has the final word: “This NiceGrid project once again demonstrates the territory’s ability to be exemplary in its development: in terms of energy, it means striving for energy autonomy.”

Yesterday, all stakeholders involved in the NICE GRID project gathered to inaugurate the dedicated showroom. Designed to accommodate both professionals and the general public, this 200 mยฒ space illustrates the work carried out within the Nice Grid project.

All the equipment installed in households, as well as in industrial settings and on the electricity distribution network, is embedded in an interactive wall. This wall offers each visitor the opportunity to see and understand how the smart solar district functions.
