The Secours Catholique report reveals increasing precarity, with 95% of households encountered below the poverty line. Access to social aid is becoming more complicated, as digital procedures are creating additional barriers for the most vulnerable.
Secours Catholique has published its 2024 poverty report, highlighting alarming figures. The situation of the most disadvantaged is deteriorating, particularly in the Alpes-Maritimes. The report reveals that 95% of the households encountered live below the poverty line, set at 1,275 euros monthly, with a median income of only 555 euros. Among them, 74% are in extreme poverty.
Women are particularly affected by precarity, representing 57% of the people supported. Additionally, a quarter of the people welcomed by Secours Catholique have no resources at all. These figures reveal a worrying and complex social reality, marked by growing exclusion.
The report also highlights the difficulties in accessing social benefits. The dematerialization of administrative procedures and the complexity of eligibility criteria are making access to aid increasingly difficult. Secours Catholique observes a non-take-up rate of 36% for the RSA, an increase of 10 points since 2010. This figure reflects a distancing from public services, abandoning the most vulnerable in the face of digital procedures that are inaccessible for some.
Dematerialization: A New Obstacle
This digitization of public services accentuates isolation and worsens precarity. People in difficulty, often without technological means or digital skills, struggle to overcome these obstacles. Without human support, many give up on their rights.
With its 528 volunteers, Secours Catholique of the Alpes-Maritimes continues to support the most fragile. Of the 87,838 people welcomed in France, 4,537 are from the Alpes-Maritimes. The association calls for strengthening reception and assistance systems to restore equitable access to social rights and essential aid to the poorest.
This report, which will be unveiled tomorrow, aims to highlight the urgency of rehumanizing the support of the most destitute. Secours Catholique also wishes to raise awareness among the public and authorities about the urgent needs of those who struggle every day to survive.
