CCAS of Nice: 5th Meetings-Debate: “I am a senior, I am in shape, but for what purpose?”

Latest News

Monday, March 21, 2011, starting at 9:30 AM at BMVR Louis NUCERA, 2 Place Yves Klein โ€“ Nice (Entrance via Boulevard Risso)

For several years now, our society has been experiencing spectacular gains in life expectancy at birth and at advanced ages. By 2050, one in three people in the world will be over 60. This is already the case today in Nice.

This revolution, due to scientific and medical advances, heralds an unprecedented era in human history: henceforth, the men and women of our modern societies, once they pass sixty, see a new life opening before them beyond active life, and most of them approach it in good health.

Thus, they now have time to live and the energy to do so. Yet many of them feel gloomy, as if they do not know what to do with this new opportunity that life has given them. They are certainly in good shape, and all of societyโ€”doctors, psychologists, gerontologists, parents, and friendsโ€”encourages them to stay fit, yet deep inside, they sense that there’s a missing element in the equation of their new life: “I am a senior, I am in good shape, but ultimately, for what purpose?”

This is the theme that will be discussed at the fifth debate meetings.
These meetings are aimed at a professional audience, but especially at seniors, families, researchers, volunteers, and students. Their aim is to initiate a debate between the speakers and the audience to provide answers to the questions posed by seniors. To this end, personalities and on-the-ground actors whose involvement and work in the fields of medicine, sociology, or simply human reflection are recognized and contribute to illuminating practices have been invited.
