Christian Estrosi accused of “Greenwashing”

Denunciation, reporting, and awareness-raising are the key words of the local movement Greenpeace 06. This Monday morning, the collective organized a poster campaign at the office of Christian Estrosi.

“Polluted city”, “climate in danger”, “time for action” are the messages plastered on the windows of the office of the mayor of Nice. Greenpeace criticizes the politics of Christian Estrosi, accusing him of giving a false green image to his campaign.

According to the local group, the announcements from the city of Nice are not without significant cause. The city’s climatic consequences have had severe repercussions in the courts. “The decision by the European Court of Justice which condemned the city of Nice for failing to comply with air quality regulations (500 premature deaths each year), pushed the metropolitan area to make these announcements.” According to Greenpeace.

A climate emergency compounded by a health emergency, indeed since the onset of the health crisis, WHO has observed a significant rise in air pollution.

The NGO Greenpeace did not hesitate to counter some of Christian Estrosi’s ecological objectives.

“Thus, when the mayor and president of the metropolitan area Christian Estrosi claims: ‘Every time we build, we will also have to destroy […]. In the national market interest area (MIN) with demolitions, we will, for example, be in the positive’, he omits to mention that the MIN will be relocated to La Baronne in La Gaude on a plot of arable land, which will generate additional road traffic (delivery trucks, etc.).”

Christian Estrosi is not the only one being criticized for “Greenwashing”; Greenpeace had already accused the President of the French Republic Emmanuel Macron of complicity during the deforestation in the Amazon.
