Christian Estrosi: “Every time we build, we will destroy.”

This Friday morning, September 24, the Mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, was a guest on France Bleu Azur at 7:45 am. He spoke on the topic of ecology and the green action plan he will implement.

The Mayor of Nice, in office since 2007, discussed several significant ecological actions that will be implemented soon.
He first shared his desire to remove the toll at Saint Isidore.
“In the discussions I have with the State and Escota, I want to remove the Saint-Isidore toll. It is an illusion to keep a toll like that. This toll is the biggest CO2 emission point in the entire department, and its removal will facilitate the bypassing of Nice.”

He then revisited the metropolitan local urban plan, particularly the issue of soil artificialization (loss of natural qualities of an area due to transformation). He declared that the city of Nice will have a neutral balance in soil artificialization. “Every time we build, we will take down. We remain neutral so that we do not have any consequences. On constructibility where we will require developers to engage in carbon-neutral construction.”

Finally, he unveiled the public transport plan and his desire that by 2025, they will all be at zero carbon emissions. “We have already started with the first electric buses. But between hydrogen and electric, we will progressively move towards having, between 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025, 100% of the metropolitan public transport (including Isola and Auron) at zero carbon emissions.”
