On Monday, November 29, Christian Estrosi inaugurated the IDEX geothermal power plant, notably in the presence of his first deputy Anthony Borré and Benjamin Fremaux, president of IDEX.
This Méridia Smart Energy geothermal plant aligns with the goals of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 55% by 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality for our territory by 2050.
The plant draws its energy from the Var alluvial aquifer, which is a significant first. It is also equipped with Smart Grid technologies with centralized energy management, which will prevent the emission of 4,000 tons of CO2 per year, amounting to 100,000 tons over 25 years, another first in Europe.
“Five buildings are already connected to this plant in the Nice 06 Meridia area, including the IMREDD. By 2032, 50 buildings or 5,600 housing units will be connected,” added Christian Estrosi.
This urban thermal network represents 6.4% of the city’s goals for renewable energy production, a significant asset for achieving the goal of 18% renewable energy in the territory’s energy mix.
In addition to aligning with greenhouse gas emission reduction targets, the plant also offers economic benefits. Indeed, the rates for these renewable energies are particularly advantageous as they are on average 15% lower than the average prices for non-renewable energies in France.
