The city of Nice and its CCAS are intensifying their actions during this winter period. Christian Estrosi unveiled the strengthened measures to protect people in precarious situations, with particular attention given to the homeless.

Faced with the arrival of winter temperatures, the city of Nice and its Center for Social Action (CCAS) have anticipated the shelter needs of homeless people. Since December 11, the El Nouzah center has reopened its doors. Its capacity has increased by 46 places, which is 8 more than last year. This site, dedicated to isolated men, offers accommodation from 6 PM to 8 AM. The residents find hot soup, snacks, sanitary facilities, and showers there. Two places are reserved for people accompanied by their dogs. “It is our duty to ensure dignified and humane reception conditions,” declared Christian Estrosi.

In the event of a drastic drop in temperatures, the Fodéré site, used in 2023 as an emergency solution, will be activated. This initiative is part of a comprehensive strategy that also includes the Trachel and XVème Corps centers.

Multiple Actions for an Adapted Response

The winter measures go beyond sheltering. They also include food distributions with the support of 23 associations. In 2023, these distributions provided more than 1.4 million meals or food packages at various points throughout the city. Christian Estrosi announced that the Fodéré site will cease this activity in January, specifying that alternatives are being considered.

Nice also aims to support initiatives that encourage a return to employment. A partnership with associations aims to direct candidates in difficulty towards unfilled positions in local communities.

Means to Prevent Precariousness

The Housing Solidarity Fund (FSL), managed by the Metropolis since 2017, is a cornerstone of direct aid to households. In 2023, 1,200 aids were granted. This enabled families to stay in their homes or cover essential expenses. “We must act together to prevent situations from getting out of control and protect the most vulnerable,” recalled Christian Estrosi.

With these measures, Nice demonstrates its commitment to a Christmas where solidarity is combined with concrete action.
