Christian Estrosi launches a manifesto against the increase in VAT in the restaurant industry.

In the coming days, the Deputy Mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, will invite elected officials from the Alpes-Maritimes to sign a manifesto against the announced increase in the VAT rate in the restaurant industry.

Faced with the government’s new announcements regarding the VAT increase from 7% to 10% in the restaurant sector, Christian Estrosi, accompanied by key representatives from the local profession, stated that he is “totally opposed to this measure.” According to him, this represents a threat to more than 2,500 jobs in the department.

He believes that the solution to fund business competitiveness would have been to “rework the corporate tax, adjusting it to reduce the burden on SMEs, while increasing the VAT on luxury products (perhaps to 25%).”

In the Alpes-Maritimes, where “on average 10% of the workforce” is employed in the restaurant sector, the deputy mayor fears that this will lead to a decline in consumption and business figures. Consequently, he will propose a large petition next week to the elected officials of the Alpes-Maritimes and even to the public to oppose this increase.
