The Mayor, Christian Estrosi, met with members of the theater community at the Nice opera house to present his well wishes and new ideas for supporting the performing arts in Nice.
Venue directors, amateur and professional theater troupes, conservatory teachers, and university students were all present to meet the Mayor, united by their love of theater.
In 2014, Christian Estrosi committed to creating an annual festival for Nice’s troupes and theaters, and thus “Lever de rideaux” (Raising the Curtains) was born last October.
This event, offered by the city of Nice, highlighted the diversity and richness of Nice’s theatrical scene over a week with 96 performances. “A success and a tremendous achievement,” the Mayor celebrated, while emphasizing the importance of theater and culture in the history of Nice.
For Christian Estrosi, culture is paramount in the Azurean capital. “Nice has gained its market share in the cultural space. The theater community has succeeded in maintaining performances in our city, and we must encourage our residents to turn towards it. As a politician, I must support culture but not judge or hinder it. In the current climate of our country, culture provides hope, and I believe it can unite a society.”
