On Friday, June 20, Christian Estrosi presented the Heatwave Plan of the City and its Communal Social Action Center. Amidst seniors, the mayor emphasized his commitment to supporting the most vulnerable and the actions implemented for the summer of 2025.
Prevent, protect, coordinate. These are the goals of the Heatwave Plan unveiled by Christian Estrosi to protect the most vulnerable during the summer. Over breakfast with seniors from the Autonomy Residence Saint-Jean d’Angรฉly, all the actions taken by the City and its Communal Social Action Center (CCAS) were revealed. It symbolizes significant mobilization for the elderly.
Taking care of the city’s seniors
โIt seems silly, but you have to drink water,โ stated Christian Estrosi. First and foremost, prevention, as explained by the mayor of Nice. Faced with heatwaves, the most vulnerable should take precautions. Avoid alcohol, refrain from physical exertion, eat adequately, close shutters to keep homes cool, check on loved ones, ventilate the body, and of course, drink water. The city of Nice has even distributed fans to elderly individuals struggling with the heat. โSince last year, there has been a fan program for those who request it. This year again, we installed more than 1500,โ Christian Estrosi explained.
Actions for the elderly donโt stop there. In response to increasingly oppressive heatwaves, the city is stepping up to ensure โthat the nearly 2700 seniors identified and listed as fragile individuals by our Communal Social Action Center (CCAS) receive special attention,โ stated the mayor. One of the actions of the CCAS is managing the Register of Isolated Vulnerable People. This initiative of surveillance and alert helps to anticipate and prevent risks such as heatwaves.
A new feature in the Heatwave Plan
The major new feature to care for seniors and protect them from heatwaves is the opening of senior day centers throughout the summer. Christian Estrosi explained this choice: โIt’s to avoid isolation and, on the contrary, to create social connections where everyone is motivated.โ
To support this opening during the summer period, a comprehensive range of activities is set up to engage seniors. There will be, among other things, private visits to museums, vineyards, aquagym classes, cinema sessions, dances, and solidarity restaurants open. This program aims to break isolation and allow the most vulnerable to enjoy the summer with a bit more peace of mind. The goal: to appreciate the heat, but this time, human warmth.
