The series of sacred music concerts, organized by György G. Ráth, the new director of the Nice Philharmonic Orchestra, continues this Sunday, the 17th, at 3 PM at the Basilica of Notre-Dame of the Assumption with the magnificent and moving Christmas Oratorio (Weihnachtsoratorium) by Johann Sebastian Bach.
Composed in 1734, this work consists of six cantatas drawing from the sources of the Gospels according to Saint Luke and Saint Matthew and recounts the Nativity, from the census in Bethlehem to the arrival of the Magi.
At the Basilica of Notre-Dame, the Nice Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Frédéric Deloche, and the Nice Opera Choir, under the direction of its director Giulio Magnanini, will perform Cantata I (the birth and the announcement to the shepherds), III (prologue to the Gospel according to Saint John), and VI (the arrival and adoration of the Magi).
The power of these pages, both famous and so emblematic in the history of music, reveals a truly accomplished art, both in the orchestral and vocal passages.
