The Cinémathèque of Nice is kicking off its new season and, as always, offers a rich and varied program. The season will open with a tribute to one of the masters of American comedy, Blake Edwards, recently deceased.
Throughout October, 18 of his films will be screened. A tribute that coincides almost simultaneously with the one being held at the Cinémathèque française in Paris.
Another highlight of October at the Cinémathèque of Nice is the second and final installment of the carte blanche for artists, organized as part of the event “Contemporary Art and the Côte d’Azur, a territory for experimentation, 1951-2011,” which allows an artist complete freedom to select a film that has inspired or influenced them. Noël Dolla chose “Johnny Got His Gun” by Dalton Trumbo, and Marc Chevalier selected “Episode III – Enjoy Poverty” by Renzo Martens.
In addition, on October 25 and 27, a session adapted for the deaf and hard of hearing will be offered with “Read My Lips” by Jacques Audiard.
Program for the end of the year:
November:
- The Cinema Lesson by Benoît Jacquot – November 5
- The 50th anniversary of the Critics’ Week
- Ciné récré, the children’s cinema festival on November 19, 20, 23, 26, 27
December: The cinema of vast landscapes, poetry, and burlesque with David Lean and Pierre Étaix.
