Closure of a class at Saint-Philippe School

Latest News

At Saint-Philippe School, a protest organized by parents took place against the closure of a class.

Next year, a nursery class will be closed. The decision will be made this Friday. A meeting is being held via videoconference at the departmental council of national education to finalize and therefore formalize this decision. This is not without consequence. The Saint-Philippe nursery school currently has eight classes, and by Friday there will be only seven. It has been three years since an additional class was opened, and it will disappear after a short time.

Overcrowded Classes

The struggle is even more challenging in this neighborhood. Indeed, 80% of the students are non-native French speakers. School is mandatory from the age of 3, and education is essential. Having overcrowded classes is problematic and can hinder children’s learning. Especially since this decision was made without informing the parents. Everything happened very quickly in this regard. The first victims of the closure of this class will be the children, where the follow-up will not be adapted and learning less effective.

A Neighborhood in Movement

The neighborhood where Saint-Philippe School is located is popular. Within it, there is a lot of movement and change. Thus, it is common to see students coming and others leaving during the school year. However, if a class closes and many children arrive, the issue of overcrowding will need to be addressed. Here, the parents are hoping that this decision will be revoked. Currently, no negotiations have taken place, and dialogue is difficult, especially since everything is done via videoconference. Even if tomorrow the closure of the class is announced, further movements will occur at Saint-Philippe to demonstrate disagreement.
