After the release of a video showing several armed individuals in the Moulins district, local officials under pressure must present solutions.
In the Moulins district in Nice, individuals are walking around and holding the area with weapons, seemingly an assault rifle and a pistol,” Eric Ciotti posted on his Twitter account this Sunday. In a video accompanying the tweet, several hooded and armed men can be seen in the district located west of Nice, likely involved in the drug trafficking that particularly affects the area. In response to such behavior, Eric Ciotti addressed the Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin directly to ask him “to deploy all available means to reclaim this district.” Accompanied by the deputy Christelle D’Intorni, Eric Ciotti met with the Minister of the Interior this Tuesday to request additional police resources.
After the release of this particularly shocking video, reactions from the municipality were logically expected. The mayor of Nice Christian Estrosi expressed himself on Twitter denouncing “the Government’s inertia” and announced that he would “take matters into his own hands with an action plan to protect our city”.
The official has already detailed several elements of this plan, particularly involving “reinforcing the video protection network at the entrances and exits of the district” to provide evidence to the police forces. The mayor of Nice also lamented the shortage of National Police personnel and proposed hiring volunteer landlords and security agents “to ensure safety in the Moulins district by patrolling and monitoring buildings and stairwells.”
On France Bleu Azur, Anthony Borré, the first deputy mayor of Nice in charge of security and housing, provided more details on this recruitment: “During the municipal council meeting on April 14, we will present a resolution for armed, sworn-in security agents, paid by social landlords, including Côte d’Azur Habitat, to be recruited”.
This Thursday, April 6, Christian Estrosi and Anthony Borré went to the Moulins to verify the presence of the new security forces. Once again, the two officials called on the State, which “must meet its responsibilities”.
