The coronavirus epidemic continues to progress in France. 16,096 new cases have been detected in the last 24 hours, announced the Ministry of Health this Wednesday, September 23. The previous day, 13,072 cases had been detected.

Currently, 6,031 people are hospitalized in France. 124 people have entered intensive care in the last 24 hours, while the number of patients in intensive care units has risen above a thousand for the first time since June 8, according to the latest updated data.

52 people have died from Covid-19 in France in the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 31,511 victims.


1,091 clusters are under investigation, 95 of which were discovered in just 24 hours, and 207 in nursing homes. 101 departments are in a state of moderate or high vulnerability.

Finally, the European Union has called on member states to tighten their control measures “immediately”. From increased testing and tracing to enhanced health surveillance and sufficient hospital capacity, “all states must deploy measures immediately and in a timely manner at the first signs of new potential outbreaks,” warned the European Commissioner for Health Stella Kyriakides. “In some states, the situation is now worse than at the peak [of the epidemic] in March.”
