Covid-19: 258 deaths in 24 hours, more than 2,700 people are in intensive care

2,761 Covid-19 patients were hospitalized in intensive care this Monday, October 26, which is 186 more than Sunday, according to Public Health France. 357 new severe cases were admitted to these units over the last 24 hours, a number that had not been reached since April. The current capacity in intensive care is about 5,800 beds.

In addition, 2,314 new Covid patients were hospitalized in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of hospitalizations in the country to 17,761. The death toll has also increased significantly, with 258 new deaths recorded in 24 hours in hospitals (compared to 116 the previous day). The epidemic has now claimed at least 35,018 lives in the country.

The positivity rate continues to rise: it was 17.8% on Monday, compared to 17% on Sunday and only 4.5% in September. A total of 1,165,278 positive cases have been confirmed, which brings the number of new cases over 24 hours to 26,771 this Monday. The previous day, France had set a new record with more than 50,000 positive cases confirmed in one day.

2,321 clusters are currently under investigation, which is 141 more in 24 hours. 548 of them are in nursing homes, according to data from October 20, 2020.
